Wages Worries

Hi all,

Can't go into too much detail in case someone sees but here is the basic dilemma.

A family member has recently changed jobs in the middle of September. Handed his notice in (at the time his manager was on holiday). Manager accepted notice with immediate effect instead of him having to work 4 weeks' notice so he could start his new job.

So payday comes this week for the old job, money shows as wages into his account but not cleared. The next day the wages have disappeared. Payroll are contacted and basically the manager hasn't done the paperwork in time for this month's pay, despite having over a week to do it.

Said manager is now away for 6 weeks, so can't be contacted. Payroll have sadi that until they get the money back from the bank they can't correct the pay, which could take up to 10 days!

Is there anything that can be done? Obviously this person has bills to pay & it's ridiculous they should be penalised for the manager's mistake.

Comments

  • best option is to phone the bank, explain the situation and ask for an overdraft.

manager made a mistake > payroll paid too much > payroll called back the money.. They might get the money back in a couple of days and correct it faster than expected but in the meantime all they can do is ask for a temporary overdraft to see them through
