Kit-e-Kat,recipy changed or just gone off?

Daisy is a junk food cat,she prefers the cheaper wet but the expensive dry.I opened a new 6 pack of assorted K E Kat meat in jelly a few days ago.
First thing that struck me was the jelly was cloudy in all the tins I've opened so far.Diasy only nibbles on some so I'm throwing out about 3/4 of a tin!Jelly in the previous pack was clear.
I phoned the makers who want me to return a couple of the tins (freepost) to be examined & they'll send me some vouchers in return, which is only fair as I could be scamming them, but I'm not.
I'm just bloody angry at the amount of cat food I've thrown away over the past week, normally,I'm throwing out about 1/4 of a tin. (stuff she's licked the jelly off,she doesn't drink water so needs the wet)
Has anyone else noticed this?

  • Hi Spike. I have noticed that the pouches absolutely honk if not eaten first thing. By the end of the day they smell like rotting corpses!! Also proof that the cats aren't eating what is put down.
  • Oh yeah kitekat is utterly foul if left for more than 30mins I've found, I left the cats in the house one day, put out kitekat, and went out, came back about 6hours later and I was gagging, I thought they had pood on my floor or something, it was disgusting!! I threw the lot in the bin - yukkkk
  • My cats only eat Kit e kat and recently I've noticed it stinks and is cloudy! My cats won't eat it at all and I have thrown so much away! I'm so glad someone else has had the same issue. It just smells rank!!

Let me know how you get on with the manufacturer, I think I'll contact them too.

Unfortunatly I ended up opening the tin I was going to send off by accident,I opened the cupboard, saw the was one tin left, opened it then found an opened one in the fridge...I think I must've thrown away 3/4 of the tins in total!

I went to Tesco's the other day to get Daisy's Purina One & bought a 6 pack of Tesco's own meat selection in jelly. So much different & Daisy wolfed it down.
Jelly was clear & no awful smell off it.One thing I did find from the Kit E Kat was if I'd put it into the food re-cycle caddy,it's smell really bad within a couple hours & It stank my apartment out really badly.

I got an e-mail from the chap at KeKat,I'll PM you the details if you'd like so you can contact him.

Eurgh! Sounds as if they've seriously changed their "recipe" (and not for the better), or they've got a dodgy batch in circulation.

I also noticed the jelly tended to melt if you left the tin out (hence why I put it in the fridge) & go whiteish..
  • I bought my furbabes some KiteKat recently but noticed that the wording on the label has changed from "Chicken" to "Flavoured with chicken". IMO that implies a change to the recipe otherwise there would be no need to alter the label.

Usually my kitties get Classic wet food which they used to wolf down. However that too has been left by them and they actually prefer to go to bed hungry which is why I tried them on some KiteKat, but that was a waste of time and money too.

Maybe it's time for me to go to raw food feeding, if only I could find a reliable guide about it and if it's necessary to give any supplements.

This might help you, Mrs Bogroll ;)

I thought it was only me!!!
I seriously thought I was going bonkers as I had noticed it went off really quickly. The jelly is rank  One of my older cats used to love the jelly he'd always eat it first. All of my 4 cats have gradually turned their noses up at it. In fact this week my omnivorous Hoover cat Lucy took one sniff looked up at me as if I was offering her a plate of arsenic downed tools and flatly refused to eat any more! I was so shocked I took her to the vets to be checked out.
Needles to say she is OK and it now looks as if the kit e kat is to blame. I went out and brought her some Sheba as a treat [I always have to do some serious grovelling after taking her to the vets] and guess what... she practically took off the enamel on her food bowl. Not only that I got mugged by the other three once they realised a bit of quality nosh was on offer :rotfl:
So it looks as though kite kat is out Sheba is in. Mind you I have warned them all that they are going to have to get a paper round and start paying board ;)
