Help!?!....Low emissions zone van HELL!

Hello,

Thanks in advance for any help. I am self-employed and as from January 2011 will not be able to take my van within the M25 due to the low emissions zone!!!

My van has 59,000 miles on it and is a 'V' reg 1999. It is in very good condition, has never let me down, perfect size for my work, has road tax and insurance PLUS i paid £500+ on sign writing.

I like many many many others are being discriminated against and our lively hoods are at risk due the government forcing us to purchase new vans!!!

By the looks of it, i will have to pay out £8,000+ of my hard earned money just to replace the van i already have!!!!!.....This isn't going to generate anymore work for me, this won't make the telephone ring and the new van is going to depreciate at an alarming rate!!!!

Basically (and sorry for my rant) but is there a scheme or compensation available to help the hard working replace their vans and continue to work or are we supposed to just go under and sign on the dole?

Many thanks for anyone's postive help.

  • I believe cameras will monitor number plates and there is a charge of £180 per day for vans that don't qualify!
  • Thanks but the options appear to be:

    1. Fit a filter - about £3000 and has to be tested quarterly (as i understand it) for £100.

    2. Buy a replacement vehicle - £8000+ PLUS new sign-writing!

    3. Reorganise fleet - bit hard with one van!

    4. Certify an eligible engine - my engine isn't eligible!

    5. Convert to cash - £££££££!

    6. Pay daily charges - £180 per day!

Looks like i am well and truly stuffed - whole took the 'GREAT' out of Great Britain!
  • Sorry 5. is convert to GAS

Where did you get the idea about it being anywhere inside the M25? It is only going to affect a small area in the centre of London according to the link in a post above;). Still wrong in my opinion though.

  • I'm based in Kent and won't be allowed into CRAYFORD which is just inside the M25 and is actually in KENT!!! So much for central London!
