medical checks pre-employment

ive heard these are no longer allowed due to government legislation. fact or fiction?

    even this would mark a major shift as for almost any office/desk bound role for example, you wouldnt be able to ask, as adjustments can be made.
  • But then an employer would be required to make reasonable adjustments. To be able to make these, they would need to know the nature of any requirements.

    As far as I understand it there are rules around employers asking health related questions during recruitment. They can ask about health issues if there's a requirement with the job, or in case they need to make reasonable adjustment through the recruitment process.

    Once a conditional job offer has been made employers can ask further questions about your health.

    They do have to be more careful now than they used to about refusing people jobs because of medical issues. They can refuse you a job for example, that involves lifting if you've got a bad back but they can't take other irrelevant disabilities into consideration.
