Garage Security

Hi All
Hopefully this is a quick question but I was wondering the best way to secure a garage door. A friend of mine has been burgled a couple of times recently and needs to get the door burglar proofed/more secure asap. It has a Chubb type door lock at the moment and is an up and over type door.
Can anybody recommend any security measures/products?
Thanks

On my rental garage I just had fitted a bolt that was fastened into the floor with a good lock on it. It also had fitted a red led outside which connected to a pp3 battery which flashed giving the impression of a alarm fitted. The roof was probably the less secure place, seved them right if they fell through roof.0

If you can exit the garage from a door other than the up and over door there is a simple way.
Drill two holes through the runners on the side of the door and through the edge of the door itself so they all line up. Insert a thick bot thought the runner into the the door edge. Even if the lock on the door is damaged it should be very difficult to open the door without making a lot of noise.
Its difficult to explain fully in a few words but if you want I can take a pic of mine and post it here later this week.
The only down side is that you can only open the door from inside the garage.
If you need to exit from the main door, your friend may be able to fit something such as this http://www.kenilworthspares.co.uk/Detail.aspx?ProdID=211 and there are even more secure versions about some are but a bit pricey0 -
Hi
I would suggest a locking bolt on both sides of the up and over door and these can easily be folded back and access gained, also i've seen where someone who has remove the mortar where the frame fixings are, and pulled the frame out. There are many options can you confirm the type of door you wish to secure?

Hi
Its just a normal metal garage door where you turn a handle and the door frame slides up and into the roof.
Thanks for the link. The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0 -
An anchor concreted in front of the door is a good solution. Look at the first two here:

They prevent the door being levered up.0 -
Hi, I am thinking of the same thing. my metal garage up and over could be opened by a good kick. I think I shall either have the garage defender as suggested by markyt or fit some type of lockable bolts top and bottom. Its either this or replacing the whole door as the newer ones have a bit more security than 1 locking point like mine but thats a fairly expensive option.0
