CV submitted to own employer !!!

Hi guys

An agency that I had worked with in the past contacted me to see if they could put my CV out to see if there was anything about. Immediatley I asked what the risks were to them putting out to my current company, to which they said that would never happen and all personal details are kept out of the CV anyway but it would never get that far.
That was last night, this morning by lunchtime I was confronted by my employer as they had just received a copy of that CV !!!
Where do I stand with this agency now? I have called and complained and they have apologised, but that does not help me and the massive damage that they have done to my career within this company !
Any advice?

Everyone moves on at some point, did your boss start with the company?
  • No Keith - he started the company !

Good things came out of it though, so I was very lucky, but it could have quite easily gone the other way. I don't want this to happen to anyone else, not a nice position to be in.
  • That is awful! I have no idea where you stand other than to draw a line under it and never to use them again but I am quite shocked this could have happened as it's a bit on the rookie side of recruitment if you ask me!!!
  • Been there before. Been accused of going to the competitor and everything did was blocked. Everyone denied all. What can you do? Nothing. As above, do not let them send out speculative CV's!

Also, thank you to people who help me out.
  • I've received lots of CVs from current employees before. Luckily I worked for a large multinational so didn't take it too personally, and just never said anything. It is quite common.

How very odd. So you weren't looking for another job but an agency just ring you up out of the blue and ask if they can send your CV out... Your first thought is "don't send it to the company I currently work for" (who even THINKS of that???!) but you say yes anyway and, hey presto, within HOURS they've sent your CV to your current employer?? Bit of a coincidence, no?! ;)
