Home Contents insurance with cashback to cover student daughter too?

I have buildings with zurich due to old subsidence it was very hard to get and I had to send them plans and papers before they would cover me so I don't think I would be able to get cashback for buildings insurance.
I do need contents insurance though that will also cover my daughter in her student uni house can I get cashback just on contents?
My buildings runs out in I think early May

Yes! Barclays pay out £125 and LloydsTSB pay out £120 cashback thru Quidco. There is absolutely no stipulation that you need to take out a joint buildings/contents policy, just 'home insurance'. Neither charge any extra for paying by instalments, either (unusual these days).0

I'll look this up do I have to add anything to get my daughter covered at her student house included in my contents insurance? As far as I can see the tsb one doesnt cover that unless I'm wrong. Hvent checked the barclays one yet thoughThanx

If you have to 'add something' ... you'll likely pay more for it. Some policies such as M&S cover student's belongings as part of the default policy.
So you may need to consider whether you want the cover or the cashback most. If you separately insure your daughter with eg Endsleigh (the student specialists) - it will be a minimum around the £75 - £100 mark. Top end if it's London
Run yours through Insuresupermarket - then check out the basics of the policies it comes up with - to see if Student cover is offered. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Hi LadyK
I've just renewed my contents, am like you and locked into buildings with AA due to old subsidence issue. I wanted student cover as well, AA dont offer it, so ended up somewhere else with only quite limited student cover, £1000 which barely covers laptop and keyboard. I went through quite a few before I found any that insure students. If you find a good 'un will you post it please!!
btw, do you declare your subsidence for contents cover? I never know whether to or not (ours was the garage).0 -
which one do you have then just in case I cant find any other?
What do you mean garage do you mean you have subsidence in your garage only? I dont know if they have to actually be students to be covered maybe is an extended personal items thing on some. I've seen personal items but they dont list laptops or computers.
Another problem I'm finding when trying to to through cashback sites is I havent had any contents insurance for years now and I think it goes against me when applying plus I think I'm being quoted more because of it. Some ask how many years no claims have I had should I put 5+ or none coz I havent had any claims as I havent had insurance. Some ask at the same time how many years insurance have I actually had I have to put none, I did have but it was years ago
I would prob get quotes if I rang but I'd lose cashback but the quote I got from tsb was quite high I thought and thats prob coz I had to put no insurance and no no claims and I'm sure that didnt cover my daughter eitherThanx

When you say it ony went up to 1k are you sure that wasnt for each item max?Thanx

Hi LadyK
I went with Budget, but try Post Office, they offer similar with £50 cashback, so that should help. Last year I was with Lloyds, but they wouldnt insure the laptop at all. Yes I'm afraid the 1K is total, skimpy isnt it!
I think you'll be right about premium going up as you haven't had insurance for years. You could try ringing those that have 0800 numbers as I found the online forms through the quidco site didnt offer provision to declare students. Barclays don't offer student cover either. You would still get your standard cash back through the PO if you rang, but you wouldn't get the part from Quidco. If you mention Quidco to the call centre agents, none of them know what it is!
I looked at separate insurance through Endsleigh, but decided that it was so high that as long as we got some cover for the big things I'd take the risk with clothes!!
In the end, I spent the whole afternoon filling in online forms and on the phone that I just got sick of it! btw, when I renewed my car insurance, I got a quote from the PO and then tried a few more. I went back with ref number to take out the PO one, and they couldnt find the original quote, so went through it again, this time I was quoted £40 less!! Even more strange, when I received my docs from the PO, it was on Budget headed notepaper!!
It's a minefield!!

Remember often you can get a better deal from a different insure who is not paying cashback, even when the cashback is taken into consideration.0

As implied at my earlier post (#4) - and specified at post #9 - you're going about this the wrong way by starting off with the cashback sites. Do it this way to find the overall cheapest :-
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1101119998,66754,
But you've got a specific problem with the Student cover. Try ringing a couple that come out best, from the above link, and see if they'll add the Student cover. But you run the risk of losing out on any cashback if you can only do that on the 'phone.
But it will be overall cheaper to add Student to your policy, if you can find one, than taking out a completely separate policy for your daughter.
M&S do it on their policies - but you have to take out 'possessions away from the home' - in order to get it. And I suspect any other policies offering it will require the same. Norwich Union Direct underwite the M&S policies - so should also be able to dovetail Student cover on their home insurances? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

That definitely used to be the case, but with £245 cashback available nowadays, that makes your theory almost impossible unless you live in a property akin to Beckenham Palace.0
