Hi, does anyone know how this works if I buy online. Can any 3 adults go then or do they take your photo/give you a physical pass on first entry ? Thanks,

No, they do check them too as often the machines don't accept them so someone has to open the barrier0

We have Merlin annual passes which includes Alton Towers Theme Park and it does state that if anyone other than the passholder (name and photo is on the card) is found using your card they will confiscate the card and no refund will be given to the passholder. Whenever we have been to the Park they have staff on the gates who do random checks on cards, plus as others have said the cards sometimes do not read and they have to manually swipe it so examione it closely. When you first go to the Prk they use an eye camera to take your picture and get you to fill in forms with your details, they then print out cards with your anme and photo on it.0
