Need to make doors to front a small cupboard (each door maybe roughly 850mm high by 450mm wide).
Suggestions as to what thickness would be best to use please?

I wouldn't go less than 19mm due to the length of the doors. We use an edgebander to lip the edges with oak vaneers but your best bet may be to buy a roll of "iron on" edging which has an adhesive on one side.
Use your iron on a low setting, plenty of pressure on the edges and then trim off the excess with a sharp stanley knife(sharp hand plane even better) and lightly sand the edges but be careful not to sand through the vaneer.

All advice warmly welcomed.

Easiest ones to fit are the type you just screw on and don't need recessing into the doors the only downside is screwing into MDF end grain isn't great as the screws can wrking themselves loose.
"Blum" kitchen unit type hinges are easily adjustable but just need a bit of care working them out (and a 35mm hinge cutting drill bit).
You could use "Piano" hinges which you can buy in long lengths and cut tthem with a hacksaw to the required length and then screw on, you have plenty of fixings then.
I'm making it sound daunting..........lol
