Is it possible to self-study then just sit an exam? (Please read whole post)

From my previous posts you will see it be expensive for me to retake 3 courses. I spoke to ICS and they said I would not eligable to sit an exam, unless I was on a course for atleast 6 months.
Would it be possible for me to self study, by buying GCSE books, and online and stuff. Then just sitting an exam when the time comes?
Please reply as soon as possible. This solution as suggested by another moneysavingexpert user would save me a lot of money £1000 for 3 courses. Could probably get all the books for £100 in total

Yes, you just need to find a school/ college that will accept private students. If you check the examining board websites they will have a list of schools that have offered this service previously.0

You can find exam centres by googling for the exam board and then finding the information on their website. You might need to try a few centres to find one you're happy with, as they may charge different fees. Some will just charge you the paper costs and others may add admin fees.
This does depend on the subject, though, as it is more difficult to sit subjects that have practical exams or courseworkMurphy's No More Pies Club #209
