Cheap printer is all very well, but most printers have "chipped" ink carts that are very expensive.
The Canon printers seem to be free of this scurge. I have a Canon i455 which is pretty good, even on photos and only costs about £50. You can buy "Inkrite" compat carts on https://www.ebuyer.com for only a quid each for this printer, so it costs very little to run. Also, you can get an A-B USB cable for less than a quid, so don't pay £10 "PC World" price for just the cable if one doesn't come with your printer, whatever you end up getting.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I'd avoid the Lexmark range. The carts for these often cost more than the printer itself!0 -

well i have bought the ip1500 from currys this morning. they had a web exclusive offer for £40.80 but in store it was £49.99 which i knew. but haggled and they gave it to me for the web exclusive price.
i could of got it for £39 from pixmania but p&p charges would of made it more expensive and i needed a printer asap couldnt wait for delivery.
very easy to set up, cartridges cheaop what more could you ask for :j0 -

If you want decent photo results, its usually best to go with the paper made by the same company that makes your printer. I know it costs more, but the results are very noticable.
The reason for this is because different companies used different methods to apply the ink to the paper, ie HP paper has 7 layers, designed to soak the ink into it etc.
When I was demoing for HP, I tired out loads of different kinds of paper, and the HP paper was by far the best for HP printers. It might not be so niticable with other companies thought, so experiment and see.Play Lacrosse0
