But what do they class as severe? Only 6% of people make it into the support group and i'm sure the figure is even lower for MH problems

    I cannot see that!

The question was asked about and amonst other things, mental health conditions.

The answer to me is quite clear:
Those with the most severe health conditions or impairments and who cannot be expected to work will be in the Support Group (which may or may not include those with mental health problems)

You can have severe mental health issues as well as mild/moderate ones.

People here are claiming that due to mental health problems they are unfit for work. They must be severe then.

Therefore they should be in the Support Group. Perhaps they need to try and get into it.

This what I would like to know. What is classed as "severe". Is it depression, Bi_Polar, Schizophrenia, Personality Disorder?

Perhaps someone needs to call the DWP and quote this paragraph and ask the person on the phone what a "severe" mental health condition is.

Another thought, what about waiting lists to treatment? Here its at least a year+ for CBT.

I would guess they class anyone that achieves 15 points on one individual MH descriptor as having a severe condition. In theory (though not necessarily in practice) these would be the same people that were exempt from the IB PCA.

CBT and other support mechanisms should be part of the support offered to those in the WRAG through third party providers - however in reality, this is rarely the case.

So which mental health conditions score 15 points?
  • The simple facts are that the two groups are completely artificial, someone can qualify for the Support Group and be ready to return to work in six months and someone can score 100+ points in the WCA (15 required), with a degenerative and incurable illness such as MS,. and still fail to qualify for the SG and have no hope of every working again.

This has nothing to do with "enabling" claimants back into work, it's not about providing the "correct" support for the sick and disabled, it's all about saving money even if it means that the best part of a 1/2 million people will be £100s per month worse off as a result.

Any condition could score 15 points, it is more a case of how the condition affects the individuals ability to work.
