BARCLAYS ISA - please help!

We decided to put our hard earned savings into an ISA - which we paid in August through Barclays (their ISA seemed just as good as anyone elses and it is our Bank anyhow). So the £3,000 was paid in then, but apart from a normal bank statement which stated the money had been paid to an ISA, we have heard nothing, absolutely nothing.

DH went to see them in October and they said we would hear soon but I am starting to worry, has anyone else had this experience and is our money safe. I am starting to have nightmares about some crooked CA in our local branch having our money or that its gone into someone elses account.!! (bit of a drama queen - I know!)

He will get into a branch ASAP but whilst I keep panicking - I wonder if this is normal and thought someone more in the know would advise us.

Thanks for your help, BB xx

I've only ever got an annual statement on my ISAs. Every April-ish

I think you should have an opening statement. It's probable lost in the post, I don't think you need to panic. Someone at the branch will be able to do a print-out for you.

BARCLAYS ISA was my first ISA. It was a nightmare...
I remember the first 6 months was really good rate (at least, I thought, I never compared the rate anyway 5 years ago).
Then for some reason, my ISA was transferred to Legal & General. The rate was horrible since then.
Finally, I transferred all of the ISA to another bank, so as the current and saving accounts.

You would have had a booklet and welcome letter when you opened surely? And it should be registered on your online banking screen..atleast it does for me.

  • Thanks for your replies guys, we havent entered into the world of online banking - as yet - and no, I'm afraid we never received anything at the time of putting the money into the ISA, it was just we had this much money in a current account and wanted to do something with it there and then.

I'm afraid I'm starting to worry more now. Any further ideas?

Online banking is good, if only so you can see your balances and know that the money is there.

At this point you should have received a welcome letter and since you haven't, you should ask for the details of the new account and how to check your balance by phone.
