Malaysia's a big place. Any clues? Type of accommodation? Standard? Budget? Beach? Jungle? etc etc

Langkawi is gorgeous, went a couple of years ago around this time. As I'm a TA, I got an 'agents deal' (AKA mates rates!) & stayed at the Sheraton Perdana. Although it was a 5* (I think) we found the price quite reasonable in the hotel. Gorgeous people, place & hotel.
We've booked a few families to the Holiday Villa, which usually comes up a good price.
Excursions our hotel offered included island hopping, a wildlife sanctuary, & I'm pretty sure there was an underwater aquarium place, sure theres probably loads more aswell, although we just chilled out around the pool & on the beach the whole time!
As for KL, we only stopped at the airport hotel! So not to much help on that one I'm afraid, although it was lovely aswell, believe it or not! Once you've collected your luggage, they pick you up in a golf buggy & take you to check in, as the hotel is connected to the airport!
I'm really jealous, have fun! HTH !!!
:D I am in the future you know...
...9 hours ahead to be exact !:D

KL's a lot cheaper than Langkawi for hotels and you can get some great deals in nice hotels. Try and get something near a Metro station, but look at Tripadvisor and decide which part of the City to stay in.
Jalan Bukit Bintang is a lively area with cheap food hawker markets.

We went up to Kuala Selengor (I wanted to see the synchronised fireflies). We just got a bus up there and wandered around till we found the local hotel. The rooms were basic but clean and they let us see them first, and it seemed like they were giving us the best rooms they had. The owners spoke no English but we got by on gestures and he wrote down the cost of the room, I can't remember how much it was but it was very cheap. I got the impression they didn't get many tourists round there and everyone was really nice and seemed quite excited to have us around.

Later on we found a small foresty park on the edge of the village, which had wooden lodge type things for hire that looked quite nice, we were just walking on some of the trails through the forest, and there were loads of monkeys and other animals around. Might be nice for kids.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

HI, Kuala LUmpur is my hometown. How much are you willing to pay? 30 pounds a night w (per two person) would get you a very nice hotel in the middle of the city.
