Does anybody know about growing apples?
I found an apple tree which I scrumped from last year. The fruit was a bit tart so i cooked it into a great pie.
This year I have collected some more fruits from the same tree as there are loads on.
Having peeled the red skin I have found that the flesh is also red- right down to the core. Never seen anything like it before. They smell fine but I`m a bit wary of tasting them in case they have some thing wrong.

You survived last year right?
They are probably a kind of crab apple. Perfectly fine to eat.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

Yes we did survive last year----but they were not red then!
(it is definately the same tree) Perhaps it`s to do with this years weather?
I am now gently cooking them and the colour is going into the juice. I guess when they are mixed with hedgerow blackberries the family will be non the wiser.0 -
Thanks for posting that link Bizzi what an interesting read.We have red devil with golden delicious on a dual variety mini tree we got from ken muir a few years ago and although the GD have always produced a few apples we've only this year got our first 2 red devils :j
I just wish we had a bigger garden now!0 -
We have Red Devil, too, it's lovely. They only have the red flesh when properly ripe, our early fallen ones are normal colour inside, a bit tart to eat as they are but great in pies and crumbles. The fully ripe ones are good to eat as they are0
