BIN Help

Hiya

Firstly apologies if this is in a thread somewhere on this board, I did perform a search first.

I have been trying to set up a BIN type auction in Turbo Lister tonight. I have several items the same but as I am unsure of their desirability/value etc I wanted to do an auction where people could bid OR Buy It Now for a set price.

Turbo Lister is giving me errors and doesn't seem to allow me to do this. I feel a bit "thick" right now, and I am sure I've seen other similar type auctions where bids could be placed or people could Buy It Now

Is it possible to do what I'm trying to do?

Advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you. :)

If I remember rightly you need a minimum of 10 positive feedbacks before you can do this. Have you got this? You can auction any item with no feedback though if you want.

To set up an auction with a BIN facility you need to set it up as a straight auction and then add a BIN price as well.

Two things to consider though are firstly, this costs extra as you pay for the basic listing plus an extra charge for the BIN. Also, if you set the start price and BIN price too far apart all that will happen is that as soon as someone bids your BIN price will disappear. Auction with a BIN option works better where there isn't too much difference in price, for instance £9 start and a £10 BIN might push a buyer into going for the bIN rather than risk losing the item for the sake of a pound.

  • Only just got home.

    Thanks for replies.

Yes I have over 30 positive feedback.

My start price and BIN price are just £1 difference between the two. The error I am now receiving in Turbo Lister is:

"the Buy It Now price cannot be used for a multiple item action. Please remove the Buy It Now price."

I have put the quantity of this item I have available for sale in the "Quantity" box. How else can I specify the number of items for this particular auction?

    Duplicate the listing?

  • Ahh ok, thanks fay :)

I had awful visions of having to relist each time (if) something was sold :o

I was totally unaware I couldn't set it up the way I was trying to, even after having read numerous help pages on EBay.

    Thanks again

If you are doing a dutch (multiple items) auction then you must *either* have BIN or auction format. If you list a multiple auction then it gets complicated as every bidder can specifiy how many of the items they want and at what price but the auction must run to closure before it sorts out who gets what at what price. Multiple auctions often result in very poor sales as people bid low thinking that with so many items they are bound to get one or two at a price they want to pay.

A dutch BIN auction is better, I use nothing but them on one of my ids. I just list say 10 items at £5 each (or whatever) and then each buyer can buy how many they want and the invoice automatically works out the total price including postage discount. Dutch bins can work out a lot cheaper than listing the same item 10 times.

So if you just set up an auction with a BIN option and then keep duplicating it you will pay a fortune in fees. You'll have the auction listing fee, plus BIN option on every auction multiplied by the number of auctions you set up..

Fay, I think the problem with this thread is that the information given to comment on hasn't been complete, so we both answered the question first asked using the original information which turned out to be incomplete. Each time a little more information is availlable we adjust the answers a bit.

Even now I am not 100% sure that the OP is asking about Dutch auctions, so when you log back in and read this yellodot can you please clarify that you are trying to offer multiple identical items both at BIN and in an auction format.

to get it all to work you can either have a fixped price mutiple item sale (ie BIN) or you can have a single item auction and include a BIN.

For £1 difference in price I would go for the fixed price pultiple BIN.
