How long should a refund take?

I bought goods on ebay which never arrived. I contacted the seller who said they would only refund me the price of the goods and not the postage.

i paid with a credit card via paypal.

I have still not had a refund nearly 4 weeks later.

How long should a refund take?

According to the paypal help pages the refund should go back to my credit card.

As I paid by credit card should I not get a complete refund including postage from the card company - or just refund of the postage if the seller does give a refund of the goods.

Start a paypal dispute ASAP, then Paypal will get you all your money back, if they were going to refund you, it would be done by now, stop messing about and start that paypal dispute before 45 days passes

100% agree with you. The seller has had long enough, don't let the 45 day time frame come and go.

If paypal don't pay up you are in the perfect position of having a credit card to fall back on.

  • Many thanks for the replies - just one more question. Do ebay sellers only have to refund the cost of the goods and not the postage?

This person has 100% positive record as a seller and if I start a dispute with paypal it may spoil that.

If they are only entitled to refund me the money for the goosds I am prepared to give the benefit of the doubt that the goods were sent but lost in transit.

Before I start a dispute with paypal I was going to send one last email to the seller to gee up the refund. I'll still be within the 45 days for a few more days yet.

A paypal claim gets back the full payment made, including post and packing. It also does not reflect on the sellers standing at all, so you don't need to worry.

  • Before I could do anything I received today,an email from Paypal. It would seem the entire amount has been refunded by the seller before I could start a dispute.

    Problem solved-well sort of.

I also received an email fromebay telling me the seller had started a dispute against ME for an unpaid item!!

    I quote -

The seller ********** ells us you have mutually agreed not to complete the transaction (either because you returned or are returning the item for a refund, or because there was a misunderstanding) and has requested a credit for their eBay fees.

Bloody cheek! they've had my money sincethe beginning of December and I only got the refund yesterday.

Having never had this before - I responded to the 'dispute' saying what had happened - namely the goods never arrived. The form only has 2 optionson it and one was clearly not applicable - the other option is that you have mutually agreed to abandon the transaction.

By hitting the 'continue'button it seems i was stuck with the second option - which also was not correct!

I did not 'mutually agree' to abandon the transaction - i completed my side of it. the seller failed to provide the goods.

Is there any way of going back on this?

The next ebay page that came up just said the dispute is now closedwith no strike against me.

I feel p****d off that after all this the seller starts a dispute against ME when they've had my payment for nearly 6 weeks.

I've yet to leave feedback but at the moment it will definitely not be good.

Well... your seller will get his fees back, but there's no black mark against you.

He had some nerve doing a mutual though!
