LinkedIn - is this legit?

I registered a profile on LinkedIn a while ago and forgot all about it. I got a message from someone on there today saying he was a recruitment consultant, specialising in the field I currently work in (it was specific enough) and to give him a call to discuss whether he could help with my career opportunities. Does this sound legit? Do 'recruitment consultants' charge a fee?

If you're asking if recruitment consultants approaching you over Linkedin is legit and normal then yes most definitely it is - remember you can also check out his details by clicking his name on the message. Has he mentioned a fee? If so, then I would steer clear as noone should be charging you anything for this kind of service - they get commission from the employer.0

I haven't used LinkedIn much so I wasn't sure how it was in terms of spam etc. He hasn't mentioned a fee, but I wasn't sure if consultants work in a different way to agencies. Thank you!0 -
No problem, as far as I understand it recruitment consultants do work for an agency or headhunters. Either way, it still stands they shouldn't charge you. Always nice to be approached by someone who thinks they can sell your skills, though!

is this not the whole point of linkedin - you create a professional contact list - then use these people to your advantage.
I am assuming that this recruitment person will be looking to put your cv with potential employees - so only worth chatting if you want to move on from current employee.
I also assume that they wouldn't be charging you - they would get their money from any placement they do - ie. if you accept a job through their agency.

Most recruiters do a search on linked in to find matches for particular jobs. Perfectly normal.Mortgage May 2012 - £129k
January 2015 - Mortgage down to £114k
Target for 2015 to get down to £105k0 -
