Advice on retraction of job offer :(

Hi Guys,

Appreciate you taking the time to read this.

I have just currently had a phone call from my supposed new employer (The NHS) to say that they have decided after further checks to retract there offer of employment to me.

I had already been invited in for a look around on the ward I was going to be working on, and I had a verbal job offer over the phone to say that they would like to offer me the position. I had also been given my start date and therefore handed my months notice to my current employer.
My current boss after telling her what had gone on broke even worse news to say that she wasn't going to be replacing me so therefore I may have no job at all now.

SO....the hiccup is when the NHS rang me this evening, I have got 1 criminal conviction which I was honest about and explained what had happened and the ward manager was absolutely fine. What I hadn't mentioned was I have got points on my license that I had been to court for BUT on the application form (which is very complex) there is no mention anywhere where you have to declare any drivers points else I WOULD of mentioned them.

Im gutted and would like to know where I stand. If anyone could assist or guide me I would be muchly grateful.

Thankyou
:(

I had mentioned in my application form

  • Doesn't going to court for points means a conviction? If you didn't put it on the form, you could have put a covering letter or mentioned at interview.

im under the impression that yes going to court means you were convicted
  • Yes but I was unaware of that fact, and I didn't think something like that would crop up on a CRB check. Its a bit unfair really as I was willing to be honest.

:( You should've put it down - I think job offers are always conditional on checks being made? :(

Sadly as your job offer appears to have been conditional on certain criteria eg disclosure, references and medical I doubt there is much you can do as the disclosure apppears to have shown something which has made them retract the offer. This is why I always tell people not to hand in their notice until they get an uconditional offer in writing.

Also be warned you may be sanctioned from JSA as they may deem you to have left your job without another one to go to.

I wish you every success in your job-hunt.

    Thankyou for your support.
Do you think if I re-applied once another suitable job arrived on the NHS Jobs website this mess would interfere?

No way of telling really but having got this far would suggest that you have the skills needed so as long as you make full disclosure I would hope that you would be succesful.
