Barclays - refusign help

Hi ,
I'm new here and looking for help, I don't know where to go next. I have finally taken the step of lookign at my finances and trying to do somehting positive about it. Aftter careful budget planning, I have raelsied that it's not imposssible - I CAN DO IT!! The first thing I did was to contact Barclays, as I am almost double my overdraft limit and still getting paid referral charges. I wanted to know if they could extend my overdraft and reduce it monthly until I am clear but they told me there's nothing I can do and I don't qualify for their debt management "service". Are they for real? I am trying to take positive steps to sort myself out and they won't help or advise. The only thing they said is to ask for details of paid referral fees for teh last 2 yaers and request a refund?

Can someone please help - have you had similar expreiences - how do you get them to listen????

Thanks:confused:

Well - slap them for 6 years of charges - that should help! Look at the links on the Moneysavingexpert.com home page.

Otherwise sounds like you need a loan to get rid of your overdraft and pay down what you owe - however if the amount you owe is made up of fees then you may get your money back anyway.

    Good luck.

  • Thanks both for your help - I'm off today to set up a basic bank account elsewhere (based on MSE advice!) and will start making steps towards reclaiming those charges. Only another £13K to go, but I can't do it when my own bank are making my situation worse!

    Much appreciated!

In october 2005 - just over a year ago, I open a basic with HSBC as I was getting illusioned with TSB. I then tried to upgrade this in May last year over the internet and got an account with a solo card which was better than a self service one - the problem was that this gave 2 accounts. I went into the bank to activate this new account thinking that the old account would be upgraded but it wasnt. So the new one was closed and my original one was upgraded and last month I was given a maestro. So basic accounts arent that bad really as long as you keep your nose clean.
