I agree on Warners... :) (and Edwardian but then I am biased!) all the DV mentioned plus Dunston Hall are nice.

sign up for Groupon and KGB deals you can get amazing offers, but before you pay make sure there are weekends available in the deal by ringing the hotel and then book as soon as your voucher is through- it will usually be early the day after buying. Many of the offers are two nights and dinner. When you sign up to Groupon just pick the nearest city to you and the nearest city to where you would like to go and keep an eye on their national offers too.

Also sign up for travelzoo top 20 which comes out on a Wednesday morning.

I can fully recommend the Marriott 2 night Escape package, see my recent post here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3445035

I dont know if they are at all Marriotts but Cardiff was great.

https://www.travelzoo.com (but click for uk site) http://www.travelzoo.com/uk/hotels/uk-country/ has loads of offers. Sign up for their weekly emails and there are at least 3 - 4 uk breaks to choose from. We did the Lake District and have also been to Britannia Hotels. The lake district break was with Macdonalds hotels and it was really really nice and included dinner, breakfast, a boat trip and a cream tea and this was booked either just before or just after Christmas. We have also been with De Vere too but I found the hotel a bit big and corporate.
