hi all
Well our kids are 6 and 7 and DH and I have NEVER spend an evening away without the kids.
I want to book a weekend away just for us - in the UK as we don't have passports - around january / feb / march - so hotels might be cheaper than in the run up to Christmas...
Ideally i was thinking a hotel with dinner included might be best so that DH does not have to drive...and we have a drink together..
I want somewhere we can relax, a pool would be great, maybe near somewhere to go in the daytime without the hassle of kids under our ankles.....
venue - it depends who we get to mind the kids for the night but either south east or around the North Midlands...
Over the last 7 years i have tested out all the different types of family holidays in the uk - camping, static caravans, forest holidays, centre parcs - but have never stayed in a hotel with just DH....
so i don;t even know which brands to search for that might offer reasonable deals,,,
i have looked at Marriott diner and room packages and that looks ok??
what other website are worth a look?
We don't do golf and have never had a spa treatment so have no idea if we would enjoy that or not!
any inspiration welcome!

Oh, there are just SO many choices
Particularly in the post xmas period. Sign up on their sites for special offers and you will get notified of post xmas packages.
BEST Western do lots of packages, You may fancy something like Warners that are adult only - not sure if they do just two nights though -
If you like the south, what about Brighton - the traditional "dirty weekend" venueAnd enjoy the night without the kids.
Somewhere like this?

do you think i would get a better deal if i book now months in advance or wait until after xmas and get a late deal?
brighton sounds good...
and now i have looked at the websites i am longing for the penrhouse suites with hot-tubs etc...wow - next week in wales at a static with 2 kids and a dog is not so appealing!
So is it every possible to get deals for the really top of the range accomm?

We've stayed at 5 of the De Vere hotels (Oulton Hall, Mottram Hall, Slaley Hall, Carden Park and Belton Woods) and all have been excellent. They always have deals available and if a deal isn't shown call them and ask what they can do. Sign up to their web offers, but I advise to wait until nearer Christmas.0

WE like holiday inn and would recommend the one at coventry, it does dinner B&B packages and has a swimming pool and is close to birmingham for a shopping, or coventry itself.
There are many around the country that we have stayed at and all have been good, though we keep going back to the one at coventry.
Should anyone else be interested it is a good base for the nec, about 20 min drive.0 -
Id sign up to their special offers and then wait personally
Im always getting specials sent to me. ALL hotels give deals. I remember a friend of mine who was a hotel manager for one of the chains and he said his remit and the remit he gave his receptionists was never let anyone walk away or put down the phone without booking them a room
So offers can be made, just time it right.
Then check out late deals on late rooms.com to see if you can beat the offer and use topcashback to get money back on what you spend. and have a lovely time.0 -
I will sign up to the hotels websites and wait until nearer xmas to see if there are any deals for early jan...we can go anywhere once we have dropped the kids off - so we should be able to get a deal.
thanks everyone for the suggestions - i just need to now get MIL to mind the kids and someone else to mind the dog!
and persuade DH that he can take a weekend off work - he is self employed so hates booking something in case he gets offered work that weekend.
aghghgh - i am determined to get a little bit of romance back in the new year..
oh well i have 3 nights in a caravan to pack for tonight..how romantic is that!

If you're going in the winter, make sure there's lots of indoorsy stuff to do during the day, and a nice open fire at night for relaxing ....ooh I'm going into fantasy land now, looking fwd to winter. Someone find me a straitjacket.....Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
