Where to find volunteering job to gain skills in finance?

I've been unemployed for a few months and I'm thinking about getting a job in the financial services (possibly with a major bank).

As I don't have much experience in the field, I'd like to volunteer somewhere where I can learn some financial skills. Any suggestions re suitable organisations I could try please?

Cheers

I don't know what financial skills you think you're going to pick up volunteering but have you tried searching the Do-it website for financial volunteer opportunities in your area?
If you go to the advance search you can select activities you'd like to be involved with.

Do you have a credit union in the area where you live?

They normally have volunteers working for them.

I have been in touch with a credit union where volunteers deal with accounts, savings plans, loans, cashier duties, FOCUS computerised cash till system, financial advice, etc. Hoping to work there.

In addition, I would like to volunteer somewhere else to gain more financial experience.

    Thanks

Girlguiding UK or Scouting - could you volunteer to do your local groups' accounts? It's a start and would they'd be grateful for sure.

What exactly are you wanting to get into?

Financial Services as an industry has everything from cleaners and basic customer service advisors through to specialists in regulatory risk, underwriting and everything in between.

Or are you wanting to get into accountancy in some form as per the last posters suggestion? ie working in Finance or Account for a company rather than necessarily in Financial Services industry
