Disallowance on JSA- a question

My daughter resigned from her job at the end of March in order to go travelling before starting University in September (mature student).

She got back in the UK in the middle of June and signed on for JSA at which point she was asked how she became unemployed which she answered truthfully was due to voluntary resignation.

The Job Centre have been paying her since then until today when she went to sign on and was told that there was a disallowance on her JSA from today (19th August) up until she starts university - about 6 weeks. They have said that she may be eligible for a hardship allowance after a couple of weeks.

What she doesn't know is if they will reclaim the JSA that she has been paid from June until now?

Just wondered if anyone had experience of a similar situation and how it was handled?

Thanks
