Will my parents need to declare the compensation

My mum and dad claim council tax benefit due to low income after my dad had to changed jobs after an accident, this is the only benefit they claim.
My dad should be getting his compensation in the next couple of months which they are looking at min £13000 if they get enough they want to pay off their mortgage which will then leave them with no savings.
Do they declare this money to the council tax people.

No it is a Personal Injury payment so it's ignored for 52 weeks. He can tell them but it will be disregarded during that periodI'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0

Sorry but this is incorrect. See my earlier post...just make sure it is a personal injury payment though. I assume he had a solicitor? He should have been advised about how it might or might not affect means tested benefitsI'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0 -
