Tipping staff at Splash Landings?

Hi everyone, this is my first post here.
I've just booked for a 2 night stay at the Splash Landings Hotel, saving 50% using the Sun code (by phone, it wouldn't work online):j.
My query is this: Is it expected that you tip the porter at the hotel? I've never stayed in a hotel before and don't want to look mean by not tipping if I'm expected to, also don't want to cause embarrassment by tipping if it's not expected!!:o
Sorry to appear thick, just never experienced it before!

Tipping is entirely up to you - do not feel obliged by convention, however if you receive service you feel is exceptional, feel free to do so. £1 per bag is fine.0

I dont tip porters but then I don't really use them!! We've stayed at many top standard hotels and although they sometimes offer with bags I don't think it's quite like the American culture. I would rather carry my own bags to the room, and will gladly thank them for opening doors etc but beyond that, I have never had the need to tip them.0
