You could look on Student Room website and advertise them on there. See if there are any students who are doing the textbook course. Or try contacting your old university and see if they want to buy them off you, or if they can sell them to students.

Deep breath in. Deep breath out. This is going to be a long post, but I need to get it off my chest.

    Work.

It’s not going well at all. It hasn’t been for several months now. I posted on the jobs forum a few weeks back.
Short version is...Was unemployed from September last year to December when I got a temp Christmas job in a pub (the one I do one night a week at currently). Enjoyed it. Love it lots but doesn’t pay the bills. Got what I thought would be my dream job it IT Support in March (borrowed money from Dad to buy a car so could take the job). But its not all that. I don’t like it. Have tried really hard – passed all the qualification exams I needed to before my probation period ends (7 September). So I know what to do but not why, which is what I need help with. Have asked my line manager and director for this at my monthly review meetings, and nothing has happened. My mentor understands and is trying his best to help, but it’s so busy that he can’t do much.

It’s getting me down so much I’m in tears most morning and nights before and after work. I feel physically sick the thought of coming into work every day. The highlight of my week is my shift at the pub! If only I could afford to work there full time I would, but my partner is a pub manager in a different pub and so I’d never see him as our shifts would clash. Its not possible for us to work in the same pub or get set shifts due to the nature of the business and it being the same company.

I’m trying to clear my debt and leaving a paying job would not be a wise move. But if the job is making me ill? Its a grey area. Catch 22. Stick with the job and have money, or leave and have no money and it could be hard to find another job. Have registered at temping agencies, but I know I can’t rely on getting work from them. I’ve heard stories where you get work for 2 – 3 weeks at the beginning, and then they tend to forget about you. I wouldn’t be legible for JSA, and my one shift a week at the local pub will not be enough to meet my bills and debt payments.

To add to the mix, if I resign before the end of my probation period (which I desperately want to do), I only have to give a weeks’ notice, after then it’d be a months’ notice. I’ve had several interviews, and been offered several jobs, but neither of them I’ve been able to take – they changed things from the original job advert (working hours and pay) which meant they were now unsuitable for me.

**Sigh** I’ve been told to get a doctor’s appointment –others reckon I might have slight depression... ( not sleeping well, crying when I think of work, mood swings, lack of appetite etc)...I’m not convinced.

Sorry, short version turned into long version. Made me feel a bit better though

    Anyways....

    Change of subject...

Sorry to hear that you're having such a hard time.

If the job is so bad that it is making you ill and making your friends think you have depression then I would leave!

In a lot of ways it sounds more sensible to stay but your health takes priority over everything else. It will also be hard to find the motivation to pay your debts if your job makes you so miserable.

I work in a pub part-time on top of my normal job too so I know how much of a pain organising shifts can be week to week!

Although it's not ideal to not see much of your partner if you take on more pub shifts that clash with his could you maybe do this as a short -term solution? You may not see him a lot for a month to six weeks say but by then you could have found another job and could go back to normal hours?

Hope things look up for you soon x

Last night, I had a bit of a breakdown over work. It is all out in the open with my parents. I’m very lucky they are being so helpful and understandable.
They could see how unhappy I am at work and my money worries over leaving. They believe health and being happy is more important than money, so have advised me to leave my full time job. I won’t have to pay rent for two months, but I will have to keep up my car loan repayments to Dad. We’ve worked out I need to do 18hours a week at the pub to be able to pay for the car, credit card repayments and have a little left over to have a life with. I’m to sign on with agencies for temp/contract work, and obviously look for a full time position that I’d be happy in.

I would just like to say ...

THANK YOU MUM AND DAD. I LOVE YOU LOTS AND AM VERY VERY LUCKY TO HAVE YOU

Also went to the doctors this morning, have been diagnosed with depression. I’ve refused anti-depressants, and opted for ‘talk-therapy’.

    One step at a time...

    Big (hugs)) to you.
Really glad your parents are supportive.
Will you leave work soon? Health really is more important than money.

    Thanks Hovel

I have my notice ready to hand in the day after bank holiday (the last day I can with only giving a weeks notice)- might as well get as much money as possible, as just can't tell how soon I'll find work, and debts don't pay them selves

Today has been much more bearable knowing I don't have long left - just over two weeks to go.

Keep focusing on the fact it's not forever now and the time should pass before you know it. Take care of yourself in the meantime xx
