Retirement in London

My boss is retiring in September and looking for things to do for his "do". We have decided on a hop-on hop-off river cruise but struggling to think of something else. Don't want to spend all day in the pub!
Any ideas would be appreciated, along with ideas for gifts.
Cheers

How about going for a tasting session at Vinopolis? OK, not that much different to going to the pub, but at least you learn something while you're getting sozzled.
A glass of champagne at the bar where the Eurostar departs is also nice.0 -
How about coffee in Covent Garden and watch the buskers. A back stage tour of the ROH could be very educational. £8 starting at 4pm on 12/14/16/19/22/23/26/27/28.
The Jewels ballet starts on 20/09/2011 I am in Spain but feel quite desperate about missing it. The colour on stage is out of this world - its a real spectacle.

We did a treasure hunt around the city which was great fun and took us an afternoon. A quick google search brought up this:

Not sure if it is who we used though!
Or a walking tour with a guide (we have done one around Borough Market but not with these people http://www.walks.com/)
If you want something for the evening how about the Ceremony of the keys at the Tower of London - Limited numbers and you need to book ahead.

Tower of London was going to be my suggestion too.0

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of the Towerof London so that maybe the answer for the evening.
Looking at a river cruise during the day - one that you hop and off of. Can go where we like when we get off then.
Thanks again0 -

I did something similar when art treasures were hidden around the city - was it really 4 summers ago??! Punctuated by frequent stops are nearby pubs, it was one of the best dates I ever had. It was just the right mix of romance, culture and liquid refreshment.
Many years ago, whilst training at Guy's, we enjoyed a really good night out at the London Dungeon on Tooley Street. I'm sure they still do corporate bookings (shared with others).Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
