what benefits would we get if oh became my carer?

i claimed esa and dla a year ago and got turned down. finally got lrc but then waiting tribunals for both.

had esa tribunal last week and won claim. rang up to see what i was entitled to, not received any money so far as something about either no ni contributions or too much income.

my oh was on a 20k job but went down to full time to care for me.
after doing this for a year and still juggling and stressing me, kids and my elderly relatives we wonder whether he shouldl bpack his job in full stop.

esa said i wouls have been entitled to £130ish but becaues other half earns £190ish pw we won;t get anythign. i also claim carers for my son.

i get lrc and son gets mrc/lrm.

insteaad of all this stress would we be better off if oh quit his job.

i assum i would get esa but would we get anything else.

at moment we get tax creditc/hb/ctb.
thanks.

and i knnow some of you will judge theliving off benefits angle but i have poor mobility have endless hospital appointments he has to take me to, we homeschool son and i also have elderly relatives so fitting in 3 work days for him is a nightmare.

thanks

I don't understand how does that work? if your well enough to be a carer for your son and also home school him, why would you yourself need a carer? I don't get it.
you need to be on middle or higher rate care for anyone to be eligible to claim carers allowance for looking after you.
Also what relevance is having eldery relatives? won't we all one day?

sam........it is quite possible for someone who receives care to also give care.
for instance, someone with mobility problems, who cant use the loo on their own can quite easily give support and guidance to someone with mental health issues, who in turn could give care to the person with physical problems.
the only issue would be, if their care needs contradict each other.

yes we all have elderly relatives, although if you speak to my teenage daugheters about helping us they won;t help now nevermind when we are older so yes.

igot carers for son on autistic spectrum and social issues that is why he is homeschooled but i am finding it more and more difficult to support him that is why i have been badgering oh for ages even before this esa award as did not feel i was able to cope some days. yes we could send him back to school but have waited over 12 months to see ed psych and still waiting when we can get him statemented and classroom support his paed said he would then be able to cope with school but not before.

i am increastingly exhausted and immobile so need more care as i tend to not eat and genrally look aftermyself very well, and need oh to take me to appointments/social situations and to go to elderly relatives as they live 60 miles away and can't drive much due to ptsd after car crash.

so we have alot on our plate. trying to manage a fmaily of 5 !!! well as other dependants.

I don't understand why your son isn't in school? If he was in school you would get more time. your oh can't claim carer's for you as you don't get middle rate care.
The lea won't statement a child out of school as there is no need for one.
If you sent him to school he would then get a statement, when the school can't cope with him.
Everychild I know with that conddition manages at school, my Dd goes to an excellent school.

To give up work to claim benefits. How is that struggling ?. You have no more on your plate than the average family in this country. If you cant cope why are you claiming careers allowance. As for your elderly relatives what's wrong with help from social services / sheltered accommodation/ other family members ?.

I wouldnt make any changes on the back of winning a ESA appeal, you will get new forms anytime now and will most likely have to appeal again, my husband is in the support group without appealing but he still gets reassessed all the time and a three months award is the longest we have ever had in writing for ESA.

    Ditto DLA appeal.

As another poster has said keeping your son at home makes sure he will never get statemented, hes off the books now and today at least 50% of parents claim to have kids with disabilities and they will be causeing problems within school so they will be evaluated first.

You will get £130pw ESA, LHA/HB, CTC, ctb , your and your sons DLA and thats it after he gives up work.

It doesn't sound like you have any more to deal with than most family's have to, get your son back in school if your strugling and then the presure on you will ease.
you could surely visit your elderly relatives when your husband is finished work or on his days off and holidays, (he only works 3 days as it is!) like I said before, everyone has eldery relatives in their family, that doesn't bear any relevance in why you want your husband to be your carer.

Anyway, regardless of any of this, you don't seem to need the level of care required for anyone to be granted carers allowance for you as you're on the lowest rate for care, and you need to be on middle or higher rate

Think the pity bus just passed you by...
