Waterstones not touched.

As someone who works around books a lot, they would be very heavy to steal anything of worth.
Each to their own though. I'd much rather have the special binding of the Times Atlas of the World (c£150) than a pair of polyester trackies any day.
The ultimate irony though would be if they broke in to steal copies of Lord of the Flies. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

They can't read books but they will have 'text-speak' down to a fine art and can text at 3248398 'words' a minute. All we need is to create jobs that need kids who have these 'skills'.0

Current generation can't read beyond 140 characters
Ok, may be they can read few paragraphs at most.
But definitely they can't finish reading a book over 200 pages.
If their reading skill is so poor, I doubt if they can write at all.
No, I am not saying that they can't write "wt r u doin 2nt?"
I know it was a joke comment but I still feel the need to say 'some'.
Eldest and youngest get through whole books (circa 300 pages plus), yes actually reading the words and not picture books, at a very high rate.
Middle son will only read if it is about rock music........ or bugs. :rotfl:
I do 'get' what you are saying though, I cringe when looking at Facebook but only when I have managed to work out what the blooming hell they are trying to say, text speak is completely beyond me!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

But there is something so lovely about browsing in a bookshop - I've loved it since I was a kid. I still occasionally browse and buy a few books. I look at books I wouldn't find on Amazon as I just go on the site to buy something I already know I want.
Having said that, my husband gets Waterstones vouchers as a form of cashback from his credit card so I only tend to go in when I've got those to burn.
I agree SO much with this. Nothing, but nothing beats a GOOD, well laid out bookshop...whether waterstones or a proper second hand book shop. I have found so much that I wouldn't hjave looked at online or from a dry list from browsing REAL books, or even looking at manager/staff recommended tables/boards. The idea of a furture without decent bookshops horrifies me.0 -
Foyles on Charing Cross Road and Waterstone's Piccadilly. Both top notch.
I like the ones you get in North America too like Chapters in Canada that are open to 10pm most nights.0 -
i bet none of them have even paid any tax in their lives.0
