Waterstones not touched.

In this Vid from Clapham, the guy attempts to speak to a couple of looters, he does make one unremarkable comment ' Waterstones is untouched' not surprising as they probably can't read

Couldn't they have picked up a few copies of Harry Potter and the prisoner of HMP? :D
  • Maybe they have all looted Kindles? :D

No wonder Waterstones is in trouble.... They can't even attract looters.

Probably because one or two of them went inside before for books and they were told they had to order them and wait a week.

The last time I used Borders to buy a particular popular children's book this happened to me. So I wasn't surprised when it went into administration.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

I have to say I still love Waterstones. They simply can't compete on price vs Amazon and they never got a decent website going themselves. But there is something so lovely about browsing in a bookshop - I've loved it since I was a kid. I still occasionally browse and buy a few books. I look at books I wouldn't find on Amazon as I just go on the site to buy something I already know I want.

Having said that, my husband gets Waterstones vouchers as a form of cashback from his credit card so I only tend to go in when I've got those to burn. :D

I love going in to waterstones to browse. Some of them even have costa coffee shops in so you can make an afternoon of it. I just make sure to note the books I am interested in before i leave so I can order them from amazon (or even better amazon marketplace) for £££ less.
pinkteapot what do you mean books you wouldn't find on amazon? there can't be many in print that aren't on there!
  • There is a good reason why the rioters ignore bookshops - books are like kryptonite to rioters - you want to hide your valuables, hide them inside books!

(Sorry, can't lay claim to that - I have slightly amended a monologue by Chris Rock)

Not a great mark up on books on the second hand market, I suppose.

Current generation can't read beyond 140 characters :D Ok, may be they can read few paragraphs at most.

But definitely they can't finish reading a book over 200 pages.

If their reading skill is so poor, I doubt if they can write at all.

No, I am not saying that they can't write "wt r u doin 2nt?"
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

What I meant was that in Waterstones I will pick up a book I've never heard of before, flick through it, and buy it if I like the look of it. I could of course make a note of it and then order from Amazon. :)

I don't find Amazon any use for browsing. Sometimes you're in the mood to try something new book-wise and Amazon can't replicate the happiness that comes from wandering round a bookshop picking random things up.
