London riots - do we still go?

Queensway is Central London, but is classed as West London by postcode.
City of London police, police the city. Not Westminster which is where all the landmarks are that you have named.
OP - I work in Central London, 10 minutes away from Queensway and it's business as usual but with more visible police.0 -
The op said she was staying in the city centre, which is not near Queensway, however if it is the city road travelodge it is fairly close to Islington!0

We went! Parked up in Hounslow (used the parkatmyhouse website to find somewhere, brilliant idea!), caught the tube in from there & went to the British Museum, then down to Lambeth & the Imperial War Museum. Aside from a few pub windows which were boarded up as a precaution, and a noticeable police presence (Both in Lambeth) it was business as usual everywhere, plenty of tourists, no atmosphere or tension; a brilliant day was had by all!Frodo ~ "..... I wish none of this had happened. "Gandalf ~ " So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."0

We were at the Traveloge in Manchester the night of the riots. We did feel a little unsettled watching the Police cars out of our window and listening to the sirens and heicopters while watching it on TV. We were even in the town when it all kicked off and had to dash back to the Travelodge past a group of lads running towards one of the shops where the window had been smashed.
TL closed the bar and sent everyone to their rooms for the own safety.
However, it has still not put us off our planned trip to London next week.I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 20100 -
Me and my two children went to London yesterday and had a brilliant time. No sign that anything was amiss. We visited Oxford Street, Covent Garden, a fab park and farm at Corams Field (Russel Square), then finally to the theatre to see The Lion King which was absolutely.
I think if you are sticking to tourist areas there is no problem at all, it is business as usual. Can't comment on other areas as didn't go there.0 -
Right now, London's probably the safest it will *ever* be - we still have 16000 police on duty until next week and actually not that much for them to do (it's all relative of course but that's a lot of them compared to usual numbers) given that the trouble-makers have mostly gone to ground or been arrested. I've seen plenty of patrols in my area either on foot or in cars - I normally rarely see any (I'm at the bottom of the Isle of Dogs in East London) The way things are right now, they're likely to send 10 fully armoured riot vans at the first sign of anyone attempting to nick a packet of chewing gum from the corner shop
Edit: It was fairly tense on Monday and Tuesday night obviously, though daytime was pretty much business as usual and everything "back to normal" from Wednesday. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Well if any of you are wondering about riots here are some people coming out of the ROH on 11/08/2011. I think you will be able to sense that 'riots' are the last thing on their minds. I am just gutted that I have missed all this 'fab' stuff as I am not in the UK. It's like slow torture watching these folks but I am so happy for them at having witnessed the Marinsky Ballet at their very best.
