I'd say its fine to go as long as your in central London.
We were there the weekend it kicked off and we have family, who live there and its no where near them in the financial district.
Just watch the news, pack and see how it goes from there.
But you should, fingers crossed, be fine0 -
Hi, we are due to visit London for three days, travelling down tomorrow by East Coast Trains and then staying three nights in a city centre Travelodge.
In view of the riots down there (which I appreciate are not in the touristy areas at the moment), what are people's thoughts on whether it is sensible to go?
I was going to post a similar question earlier ~ we're going down tomorrow for the day, and I was in two minds as to whether to take a rain check for a few days. However, I think the idiot looters are sticking to shopping areas and in the late evening, so we've decided not to let them ruin our plans as we're visiting a couple of museums. I'm taking my pointy golf umbrella so wo betide anyone makes a move on us; like Cpl. Jones so wisely said "They don't like it up 'em!"Frodo ~ "..... I wish none of this had happened. "Gandalf ~ " So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."0 -
IF you had asked me this morning, I'd say yeah it seems ok. But just having coming back from outside and seeing what#'s going on, I'd stay away for the moment. Rather be safe than sorry.0

Personally I'd not go. If it was DH & Me we'd go but why take the kids to a place where they could easily be scared?
I'd stay home.0 -
Mum and I have theatre and train tickets booked for a Matinee on Thursday. Currently planning on going, transport and touristy areas seem unaffected. Fingers crossed that we are still feeling as optimistic on Thursday morning, but guess it's wait and see ...0

I have travelodge rooms in Ealing for Friday and Saturday, then Covent Garden for 2 nights. I think I will give Ealing a miss.0

I'm in London, I agree that it's business as usual during the day. Better to stay in at night, but the city is huge and the areas targeted so far are far away from the attractions. There are lots of tourists on the streets.
Excellent advice.
It's unpredictable where trouble will be, so if you have to go out at night, stay within the vicinity of the hotel.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Central London has always been safe. The poorer suburbs have always had problems.
Have a good time & let the police sort the problem.

London's safer than Manchester and Wolverhampton at the minute! Well the centre of London anyway. Waterloo area was fine today where I was working.0
