Help with sending a package to Sweden

I know there's a lot of discussion of postage on here but I'm wondering if someone can help with this.

I'm selling an item on ebay, I have said "no international shipping" but I'm getting a few bids from Europe (and Sweden in particular). What would be the best way of sending the item to Sweden? It's a small box (15cm x 15cm x 7cm), weighs around 500g. Value is £120 (I hope!) so I'd want it insured. The post office website values for compensation seem too low, and anything more seems hideously expensive, I'm wondering if it's worth it at all or should I just stick to UK bidders?

You'll need to ask on the courier thread as people there will be able ot help. As you've already found out RM don't offer a suitable service.

If however you don't want foreign bidders then set your seller preferences tightly to exclude them.

A courier couldn't beat the RM price at that weight. ISF would be just over £11 insured for the full amount. Hardly hideous.

But no 100% guarantee of a signature or tracking, so slightly risky

£16.50 plus VAT for Transglobal. It depends if you want to claim on the insurance if it goes missing or if you would prefer to use Paypal protection. Personally I'm with macfly, but I send a lot overseas. Only do what you are comfortable with.

This ISF seems like probably the way to go then.

One more question then. I've insisted on paypal only for payment, so does this cover me or should I take out the extra insurance offered by the post office?

Paypal will cover you if you abide by their rules. Basically, as long as the item is tangible and you post within 7 days of payment, to the address in Paypal, with the OK to send message, giving an online trackable means of proof of delivery (with signature if over £150) and keep your certificate of posting for 180 days, you will be covered.

However, ISF will probably not give you the tracking you need, so therefore you need to decide:
    1. Do you pay the extra and opt for a courier which will give you all you need for Paypal protection.
    2. Do you go for ISF which will not give you Paypal protection but WILL give you adequate insurance if you opt for the enhancement.

My philosophy is - you only need be covered by one if the item goes missing - I would rather opt for the carrier.

What you do, is up to you.

Fully insured, up to £500, so not in any way risky.
  • try thepackagedeliverycompanyy.com, they come back at £10 with £50, but I don't know how much more cover would cost.

Insured but not suitable for paypal seller protection:

Are all International Signed For™ items electronically tracked when they are delivered?
We track all International Signed For™ items until they leave the UK and then the item is handed over to the destination country's postal service as a priority item. However, we can’t track your International Signed For™ item all the way to delivery in every instance.

The original question asked for the best way to send, and since OP was using paypal the answer seems to be a courier with tracking and insurance.

So do you pay far more for paypal protection, or do you cover yourself for the full amount via a cheaper method? Best doesn't mean the most expensive, especially on a money saving forum.
