Pay Day Today....money not received..

Well today is Pay Day for me :j however the money has not gone into my bank :mad::eek: and won't until Monday. This means i am going to go overdrawn, as this morning I paid my credit card online (expecting my wages to be in the bank) do my employers have an obligation to pay any fees that I will incur?

This is a large company (Royal Mail).

I have 3 Children to feed and large bills to pay for childcare during the 6 weeks holidays.

    I would call HR to find out what has happened. It could be that with the last day of the month being Sunday they've decided to pay on Monday instead.

    Unfortunately, it's not the employers responsibility for the dates set up on direct debits. This is why I have my rent, gas and electric etc set up to be paid the first week of the month.

    Is there not someone who can lend you some cash for food?

    I'd say if your contracted pay day is today and you incur a charge because they have failed to pay you, you should ask them to pay the charges. I don't know whether they legally have to but I wouldn't think it inappropriate to ask, and as a big company they should be able to do this. Why should you pay for their f-up?

    Ideally first read your contract to see when your payday is and what happens if it falls on a weekend etc. Have your co-workers been paid or has no one?

    Speak to your HR department today, ideally after the above but if not possible then at least today before 3pm. If they have messed up they may be able to do a CHAPs payment to ensure you get it in your account today.

    As to who is liable for bank fees, it will depend where the error is. I did have an occasion where it was the bank that lost the reel and so it was them that waived them as HR and Payroll had all done their jobs properly.

    I have rung HR and there is an announcement on the telephone saying that due to a technical problem I won't be paid till Monday 1st August.

    My Husband will see us through the weekend, but as for most people at the moment, money is tight! :(

    I think it must be that kind of day.

    My sister banks with Think Banking, her wages went into the salaries account like normal, but then nothing happened. By 9am she tried to phone them but the lines were down. She finally got her money by 11am.

    Guess who ended up footing the Asda bill?

    It is not your fault there was a technical problem and this is a break in your contract as far as pay goes as they have not paid you on the correct date. Surely they know people have bills on DD's and food to buy and travel etc

    If your pay date is the last working day of the month and its today and the money that normally hits has not gone in and you have not changed bank accounts then your company are liable for ALL charges to your bank account.

    You need to provide the bank statement and this should be paid to you with immediate effect!

    Have a word with CWS as i suspect they will have raised concerns overs this and there may well be procedural agreements in place to deal with such issues.

    I guess it would depend on the company.

    I know something similar happened in my company a few years back - payment was delayed from a Friday to a Monday. However, on the Monday they sent an email out saying that all charges would be paid for . This included bank and utility charges - as long as you sent proof!

    Royal Mail is a large company, and it would be bad PR if they let this slide without remediate action. There seems to be a lot of bad press about them these days. I'm sure in the grand scheme of things, paying a handful of people's charges would be more cost effective, than the amount of negative press it could generate, along with disillusioned employees. Their reputation isn't very good as it stands... I don't think their board could withstand much more both internally and externally...JMO.
