Sky TV and F1 news

My boyfriend is a huge Formula 1 fan and was really disappointed with this morning's news with regards to F1 coverage on BBC/Sky. In the past, I never used to watch the sport. However, over the past few months, I've been watching the races and found them quite fascinating!

Anyway, we were just looking at prices for Sky TV and were

We were thinking of getting the most basic package with Sky Sports and HD coverage (around about end of Feb. next year). We'd also be happy to change our phone and internet provider with Sky if it works out cheaper.

I looked at their packages and got the following:

Sky Line Rental plus unlimited internet (the 2GB free one won't be enough for us).
Sky TV plus variety pack (can you opt out of this?)
Sky Sports 1
HD box + HD subscription (will we get Sky Sports HD with this?)

All for about £61/month! I was completely shocked by the price.

We're currently with virgin media (line rental plus internet) and pay £20 per month for that.

Are there any cheaper options available out there?

Just wish the whole season was on the BBC; we both think their coverage has been fantastic!

:(

Just give up on F1, I think must people will be doing so, if the vaaast sums of money going into it aren't enough for Bernie and the teams that they now need to mug the fans then its time to call it a day.

I too am in the same boat, but its not just about F1, as its more about Rugby too for me - and the HD on Virgin is SS1 and SS2 only - and Sky will push the football on SS! and SS" and therefore Rugby and F1 qill end up on SS3 or SS4 or even worse it might even end up on the red button (of which virgin have varying quality of performance.

The trick is you need a phone line for Sky - but you CAN use a Virgin phone line for it - so we're looking at keeping virgin upstairs and having sky downstairs - works out at roughly the same cost all told (as we are on Virgin VIP).

I like my HD and Virgin have been done over by sky for the HD movies and sports at £7 a box - so we get 50+ HD channels from Sky and just have the basic TV upstairs - that, well, that suits me :)

You do not need a phone line connected for a Sky TV contract, you can buy out this requirement at sign up for a one-off payment of £20 or so.
Obviously this does not apply if you have Multiroom.

yeah but if you have really poor ADSL speeds like I do, I can use the virgin line I would have anyway... :)

Been watching F1 for well over 30 years and although I've always preferred endurance sports car racing to single sitters and F1 got progressively more and more boring (IMHO they need to stop babysitting the drivers, who really need to stop whinning, grow a pair and go racing :p ), there is no way that I am paying for Sky Sports to watch the F1. I probably won't bother with the ones that are shown on the BBC either because what's the point of watching half the season? Ah well, at least it's the GT Spa 24h this weekend and Motors TV are showing a fair chunck of it...

Edit: and if Bernie wants me to keep watching, he'll have to pay for my increased subscription :rotfl:

    What about sky player/go?

Here's the blurb from the page:

"With a Sky Go Monthly Ticket you can enjoy great TV from Sky online at home or on the go without an annual contract or dish. Watch up to 32 live channels - including Sky Sports 1-4, Sky Movies, Sky Atlantic, Sky 1 and more - plus hundreds of shows and movies on demand.

Sky Go Monthly Tickets will be available from August. Simply register your details to be one of the first to hear when it’s ready
    ."

I've tried it through the xbox 360 and it's not bad, if you have a decent speed (I usually get 1-2MB.. terrible exchange)

I'm angry and disappointed too. We gave up Sky a couple of years ago because it was too expensive once we retired. We don't watch a lot of TV but I love Formula One so do watch that. We won't be going back to Sky. The news said that the BBC were going to do half of the races but I've no idea it that's live or what. I'm really angry!!!!!

Yes, the BBC will show half of them, all live-this will include the Monaco GP, the British GP, and the last race of the season.

£15-£40 a month...and you have to register the device, and can only use it on two - cosmic...could have been a good option, but not so

I do not have sky sports, nor am I going to pay for it just to watch the F1!

You may as well get a Subscription with a usenet provider for that price! and even then, it will be far cheaper and will go well with your Sky Broadband. ;)
