Best time to buy long-haul flights - know a good independent specialist?

Hi, the girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Asia in January next year for a couple of months hopefully.
I was wondering when would be the best time to buy the flight tickets? Also if anyone knows an independent specialist who can see the bigger picture and tell us when a special offer comes up?
Probably looking for returns to Bangkok (or KL or Singapore) as early in the year as possible. A stopover in India would be a bonus and would consider travel on to Aus/NZ if it wasn't much more.
Best prices I have found so far are £540 to Bangkok.

£540 is pretty good for BKK, if you can go after the Christmas peak flights will be cheaper.
