Should I make a council tax reband application?

in Cutting tax
Hello we have moved house about six months ago and find ourselves being banded in Band G for Council Tax. To us this seems quite outrageous as our house is not exactly a mansion and was bought for £333,500.
I know that the bands were worked out in April 1991 and have used the tool at this site: http://www.nationwide.co.uk/hpi which shows an approx value in 1991 of £110,000 which would put us in Band E.
Would it be worth my while putting in an applicant for rebanding do you think or could I just be opening a can of worms?
Thanks.....:)

It wont do any harm to make a claim.
Check with the the valuation office agency

I'd have a look at this thread which discusses rebanding in depth. You will also find a link from that thread to an official article on the topic.
From what you've said it looks reasonable enough to me for you to want it changed.MFW 2010 - No. 151 - £583.39 of £9,000 OP Target (£540 so far for February 2010)0 -

Another thought, does anyone know of a case where an appeal resulted in an increase of band? That's a worm in the can you don't want...0
