Normally banks pay bonuses annually I think, around the start of the year. But I know of someone who gets a bonus in the City every quarter. Is that normal? Just curious.

Perfectly normal. I used to work for a stockbroker and received a quarterly bonus, in fact all staff did.
I agree it's no longer that common though.Saving for an early retirement!0 -
you mean like in banking or insurrance ? They are a lot of jobs in the 'city' that aren't financial based who get no bonuses0

Are you possibly mistaking commission for bonus? Some do use the terms interchangably.
Never being in sales I've always had bonuses and they have always been annual. I have known sales guys who get both commission and bonuses. The former were paid either monthly or quarterly but the later were annual.
Of cause a bonus can be paid at whatever frequency the organisation wants but due to the seasonality of most industries they tend to want to see a whole years performance before making a decision on what to award.0
