We went to hospital with DD about 2yrs ago and that's what they told us while we were there. You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs :rotfl:0

All the years that I have been in clinical practice - that's news to me! The temp is what is reads on the thermometer.0

THis is NOT medical advice;)
But, having had 3 children, you learn more with each one, and when they have had a temp. I give calpol, strip them off and lie them on TOP of the bedclothes, with a cold wet flannel on their forehead. And turn the heating down!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

A normal temperature is between 36-36.8ºC (96.8-98.24ºF). In children, any temperature of 38°C (100.4°F) or above is considered high and is classed as a fever. To find out if your child has a fever, place a thermometer under your child's armpit or use a special ear thermometer.
As I said, look here for the facts...

Glad to hear you're healthy then, that's spot in the middle of the "normal" range.0 -
There is readily available advice on what constitues a 'temperature' - as posted in NHSD link above - however, the thing that is coming into question from the OP is the 'theory' of adding 1 degree to a temp taken via axillary route - as I said, I have never come across this, and what the thermometer reads as determines the subsequent treatment.0

I was told at the hospital to add 1C to the armpit temperature. They also asked me where the temperature was taken from (mouth or armpit) for that reason.
As it is, even with paracetamol and ibuprofen my daughter's temperature hasn't gone below 38C under arm (without adding anything) in 3 days. If it doesn't lower soon I thinks it might be a trip to the doctors for a checkup (she also appears ill in other ways).Purple Penguin Power!
