In the place I work (dealing with LCD screens) Thrips/Thunderflies are a common problem in the summer.
Depending purely on the manufacturer some may replace the LCD screen others will brush it off as mother nature type issue that cannot be helped.

In the majority of cases the Thirps get into the LCD panel its self and this would have ot be changed, it is possible to strip down the LCD panel however it is an expensive process and not really worth it.

My only peice of advice that has proved sometimes to work is to wait until the Thrip has died and dried up and then gently flick the screen in the area of the Thrip and try and get it to fall to the bottom of the scren where it is less noticable.

Recently, a thunderfly crawled under the screen and is now stuck there, causing some disruption to the LED display around it. I can't help but feel that this was able to happen because the laptop was poorly sealed/constructed around the edges, so can I reasonably blame this on poor workmanship?
No screen (for consumer use) is sealed. This isn't "poor workmanship", this is the way they are designed.

I have exactly the same problem with my screen (I made the mistake of "poking them" so they died and will now never move). Many friends have had such problems with their laptop (none of them Dell).

You will have no joy with Dell or Currys at all, and rightly so.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Yes it is, if you ignore the point that is a monitor and the op has a laptop and he uploaded that video 5 years ago before he purchased the laptop, then yes, it could be argued that is the Op.

Jakg, when I referred to poor workmanship I was talking about my particular laptop which has had a few issues of its own around the edges, though I accept I didn't make that very clear.

Either way, Dell has now agreed to replace the screen, so all is well :)
