To enter this competition, you'll need to turn to page 122 of the august 2011 issue of Cond! Nast Traveller magazine, and identify the complex and town in the picture (hopefully our lovely friends amsquared :A and/or Alix Bell :A will scan the photo for us and put a copy on here) :T
The prize, worth about £2,500 includes accommodation on a bed-and-breakfast basis in a superior room, return Eurostar tickers from London to Paris up to the value of £200, and hotel transfers. The holiday is subject to availability and must be taken by 29 December 2011. The following dates are excluded: 27 August-7 September and 28 September-6 October.
What do Woody Allen, Professor Stephen Hawking, writer Paulo Coelho and Vinton Cerf, one of the inventors of the internet, have in common? No joke, the answer is they are all advisors to this futuristic complex, Europe's latest cultural landmark hoping to emulate Bilbao and trigger the 'Guggenheim effect'. The town set to have its fortunes revived is a port and industrial centre (even its local football team is called 'Industrial'); the architect responsible made his reputation in the 1940s and has claimed his curvaceous designs are inspired by the bodies of Brazilian women. The complex opened this march, to the ragtime of a New Orleans jazz band; and as well as the fried-egg auditorium pictured here, it includes an exhibition dome and a helter-skelter tower with a restraint. Where are you?
ANSWER - Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Centre, Aviles, Asturias, Spain (thanks to robin-swinton below in post #3:T)
