18866's sister company www.10787.ch which is for telephone users in Switzerland quotes their prices in "Rappen" per minute.

Anyone know what a Rappen is?

If it had been in Swiss Francs or even Euros, but a Rappen

    100 rappen = 1 swiss franc

(Maybe better if this was in the travel board!)

Ha ha Smartasss :D (I did swither about which board to post it on) ;)

To be honest I've been going to Switzerland for more than 20 years and never heard of a rappen, but Sergeant121 has posted I've always knows it as a centime.

Thanks guys you solved my problem.

"Rappen- a monetary unit of the German-speaking cantons of Switzerland and of Liechtenstein, equal to one hundredth of the Swiss franc."

It's the french speaking part of Switzerland I go to, I don't feel like such a fool now :p

I've seen sister companies - Telediscount, etc - in several other countries, but this is the first of those that is account based, rather than call-through.

I was wondering whether this access was available from other operators than landlines; maybe mobiles via an 0800 or equivalent. The first version of this post asked that, but I should have read their questions page first -
Nein, nur Festnetzrufnummern können bei 10787 angemeldet werden
Now you've shown this one, I want to find similar account based ones in other countries where 0800 or equiv calls are free. Perhaps I will start a new thread.

I think that is a great idea Andy, there are always people on here wanting to know how they can phone to UK using a cheap rate, especially our lucky users who live part time in Spain :)
