What to do around Durham

Several adults and 2 children + 1 baby and we are staying at Plawsworth. Never been to that part of the country before and just getting excited. Can anyone give me some ideas what to visit with the family and 2 grandsons. Will go to diggerworld :jand also the metro centre.Might also go on the train to visit York. All suggestions please also places to eat out which are not too expensive. Thanks.:D

Unfortunately the PYO fruit farm has closed. Beamish Museum is close by. Chester le Street has a reasonable park for the children.0
