Not reading descriptions - a growing trend?

Anyone else noticed an increase in questions and complaints from Ebay customers not reading descriptions?

It seems most are from people bidding/browsing on phone apps that don't show the description straight away, it's not many but enough to start getting irritating.

If you are buying in an Ebay auction it isn't good enough to just read the title and look at the gallery picture, you could end up getting stung and making a big mistake.

I've been lucky so far as my stuff is fairly specialised so people do tend to take the time and read the blurb. However we do seem to have more threads where buyers are asking for returns even though the item was fully described.

Also try viewing an ebay item via google shopping and see what ebay does to the description.

I've had that a few time from genuine and experienced buyers, mainly asking questions about things that were clearly on the listing.
I've even had someone buying the wrong item from a scroll down menu.
I think it's going to be an increasing trend. I'm going to do some research to find out how I can make my listings iphone friendly. Stage one: buy myself an iphone:)

About 5 minutes after posting this I was asked a question where the answer was in the title, to ask the question you would have to read the answer, I sometimes think they're just out to wind me up....

I've always had this. Often list items for collection. State in both the postage where it's coming form and also in the listing. You can guarentee that I will be asked several times....where is it? Always have to temper my response.
  • Ive had this 3 times in as many weeks - using Auctiva I sometimes upload up to 24 pics , which are cropped, right sized etc

    - and they only looked at the gallery image anyway
As Martin says - please be nice - there is no such thing as a stupid question ! ;)

Think Positive at least they asked before they bought it.

I find collection items attract the worst 'non-readers'. I always state collection only, the area I am in and the begining of my post code. The most common question is 'Can I collect this if I win'. Then someone asking for measurements (which were stated), so I did an advanced search to check where they were (if they're that stupid...) - turns out the other end of the country. When I pointed this out to them they decided they weren't going to bid (thank goodness). Unlike some who do!

i sold a faulty netbook on ebay that would not power on.

the title stated it was faulty and i described in detail the fault with it in the listing.

the buyer received it 2 days after i posted and emailed me to say it didn't work!

they then filed a not received item and paypal gave them the money back.
i never got the item back either.

    some people are just idiots.
You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.

    I agree.

If someone's going to send an item without a Certificate of Posting so they can claim from Royal Mail if the item is lost or, if it's more than £46, proper tracking such as Special Delivery so they can win a paypal claim, then they are idiots . . .
