Will my student loan effect tax credits?

The lady I spoke to when I renewed the tax credits didn't seem to think it would, but I've got a feeling it will :/

I'm eligable for the full loan and the Parent Learners grant, but I'm unsure how much that will be yet.

We get working tax credit and child tax credit, but no help with the rent or council tax.

Does anyone know if the loan will effect the child or working tax credit? I don't work, my other half does, if that makes any difference.

I'm nervous enough about starting as a mature student without worrying about money on top :o

  • I've just logged on and found that I'm also entitled to a HE Maintenance Grant as welll as the Parent Learners allowance... will these effect the tax credits?

I don't know about the Parents Learning Allowance, but Tax credits did not count Student Loan, Maintenance Grant, or my Bursary when I told them about my change of circumstance.

As far as I know, the only student finance that DOES affect tax credits is the "Adult Dependant's Grant".
  • Thank you for taking the time to reply :)

I know I'll be paying back the loans, but just for once, assuming it doesn't affect tax credits, we will actaully be better off!!! That has got to be a first!! :)
