I have been receiving letters from the above regarding a debt with capital one the card limit was only £200, a while back i became unemployed and to be honest this debt wasn't high on my list. I moved house in this time and forgot about it I have now started getting these letters saying I owe over £400 to them. I have read other post about this company and would like some advise on this matter.
Thanks

OK. Also, when did you first take out the card?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Between 2008 and now the balance could easily have increased by that amount with late payment fees and overlimit fees. You could ask them for a breakdown of the balance.
However as the debt is with debt collectors they would probably be open to you making them an offer to clear the debt. If you do this make the offer in writing and get written confirmation from them that the payment will be in full & final settlement of the debt.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
the card was first taken out around 20030

In that case, you can write to Lowells to demand a copy of the credit agreement and a statement of account.
Requires a £1 fee. Normally best done via postal order.
See the info and letter in this link.

Make sure that you add to that letter that you require a breakdown of any interest and charges that have been applied to the account.
Should Lowells not be able to provide a copy of the agreement (a unsigned reconstructed one is OK as long as it contains the same info as the original), or not be able to justify any charges they have added, then as said, that could give you better ground to negotiate a F&F or some such settlement.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
