Indifinite Award & Query re Renewals/PPI

Hi

I currently have an indifinate award of DLA only claimed past 2yrs despite fact I would have qualified for well over 20yrs prior, I did not want to claim for reasons that I wanted too be truly independant & stubbornish.... personal choice not reflection on anyone that claims.

When i eventually applied my claim was accepted & I was awarded this on basis of indefinite award. I would like to point out that I work full time hence not an ESA claimant. My query is if indefinite claim mean a renewal every few years & if so when??

I am aware that things will change when PPI is in force & assume that a re-assessment of all claims will be determined & right of appeal etc. However does anyone therefore know whether claims will then be determined as ie indefinite in future.

I feel that as a f/time worker I could be disadvantaged as due to my stubbornish to override my seriousness issues I will be deemed well enough to work hence well enough to be assessed as not technically disabled.

Anyone have any ideas or answers to my Qs I appreciate that PPI is not due for implementation until couple years

Cheers

I know how you feel. Been there myself!
Except that my claim ended in 2002 with HRC, then I didn't bother to renew until 2010, when they said that I can't have it.
Condition and needs still the same, have been for over 25 years.

When i eventually applied my claim was accepted & I was awarded this on basis of indefinite award. I would like to point out that I work full time hence not an ESA claimant. My query is if indefinite claim mean a renewal every few years & if so when??

Indefinite means 'as and when' - you can be re-examined at any time to suit the DWP. Life awards went out of the window years ago. People were left on the benefit without any reviews. Hoping that the claimant would be honest enough to tell the DWP that they had improved. That didn't happen - I wonder why?

All DLA claims will be re-assessed under PIP.
As for re-assessments under PIP, given what has been said, yes there will be regular re-assessments. (can't really trust the British public to be honest it seems!)

I feel that as a f/time worker I could be disadvantaged as due to my stubbornish to override my seriousness issues I will be deemed well enough to work hence well enough to be assessed as not technically disabled.

It shouldn't be a problem, but it all depends on your disability and needs. If you were working in a steel foundry and claimed that you could only get about in a wheelchair, you might find that you will have problems!

PPI is nothing more than a way of making DLA harder to get no matter how the politicians dress it up.
Looking at the figures at the moment, one would think that Britain has a major health problem with so many claiming sickness and disability benefits. We all know that a good proportion are 'try ons' to increase a benefit claimant's pot of income.

The DWP - at the moment take 'indefinite' to be 'not of a determined duration' - hence you can in principle have a review at any time.
It's looking fairly certain that under PIP, you will at the least have periodic reviews.
It may be that in some cases, you can pass 'on paper' - without them even needing to contact you.
(say, you've been born with no eyes, and being sightless is the reason for your award)

If it's for diseases that have been known to improve, it's vastly more likely you will in fact be at least required to resend forms, and possibly attend medicals.

Having no eyes does not mean that you are unable to work. So if the poster ever claimed ESA, they would fail the test on that part of it. That failure would be used as a reason to question the validity of the DLA award.

Yes you can pass on 'paper', but can also fail on 'paper' because of an existing DWP failed assessment for another benefit.

    Hmm.

OH is in a similar situation - he has an indefinite award and also works full time.

However I suppose it massively depends on the type of work you do - as tempested said. OH has several mental health problems but he has been doing exactly the same job for twenty years so he can do it confidently as it is familiar to him and his employers have been forced (by ATOS believe it or not) to make adjustments to allow him to keep working. New situations make him anxious, plus he has no short-term memory so if he was suddenly forced to do another job, he wouldnt be able to do it meaning there is serious restrictions on what he can actually do.

Just because you work it doesnt mean they are automatically going to say that you arent disabled - plenty of disabled people do work. Im dreading the PIP implentation personally - although OH had no trouble at all being awarded DLA and subsequently having it renewed as an indefinite award I can see that the possibility of medicals, form filling etc and then the possibility of having his claim dismissed at the end of it is going to be the stuff of nightmares, especially for him.. :(
