replacement car windows/windscreens

My brother's Toyota windscreen is broken. After I forced him to shop around the difference in quotes was .....
that well known replacement window firm starting with 'A' over £300 and
a lesser known firm picked from the yellow pages £170.
This was for the exactly the same service eg man comes to your car and replaces the windscreen, clears up, takes his money and goes away.
I had a similar situation with a broken car window where the 'A' quote was over twice an unknown firm selling exactly the same product. Both my brother and I are insured only third party fire and theft with no windscreen cover.
This has got me thinking, are our car insurance premiums over inflated by insurance companies using this particular company?
Please, please shop around when buying replacement car windows/screens you could save a mint if you avoid THAT company.

My local garage tells me they can always do replacements cheaper - rather than going through insurance - £50.00 standard via insurance. I've never tried it as have no breakages but would be worth asking and negotiating.0

Got an old Volvo and had an insurance quote for new windscreen, about £400.00, local one under £100.00 No wonder all our premiums are going through the roof. I wonder if the insurance companies own them.Down south where, unfortunately, the government does remember us.0
