Linked address on Credit File...

Hi everyone, am hoping you can help me to understand an answer to a query I had with CallCredit. Here's some background first...

I separated from my (now ex) husband in 2006. We had joint debts etc. but these were settled from proceeds of the sale of the house. After the house was sold, my ex moved into the home of a friend of his, only temporaily until he got his own place. For some reason, one of the joint debts was settled completely only after he had moved out of the house, so he must have given his temporary address to the Co-op in order to receive acknowledgement. (For info, he received all the proceeds of the house, therefore settled the debts, all of which I know were settled)

I am trying to make sure my credit history is as up to date as possible, I've never defaulted on any payments but have moved around quite a bit and obviously that means my rating has taken a little bit of a bashing! Anyway, I recently applied for my statutory reports from all 3 CRAs. Turns out I'm still financially associated with my ex husband, so that's been sorted now and the link broken. However, my real problem...

Because the Co-op loan was settled while my ex was in his temporary home, it has been mistakenly assumed that I was also living at that address, hence a linked address is now on my file. I've never lived at the address and, to be honest, I wouldn't even know where it was! I asked CallCredit if they would remove the link, citing the fact that I've never lived there etc. but they refuse, saying that there's valid financial data linking me to the address and so it must stay. Thinking about it, I guess that is correct, but how can an address someone has never even visited, let alone lived at, be valid data? CallCredit have advised that, if I wish to see the information about me held under that address, I can submit another request for my statutory report, citing that as a previous address. Surely I can't do that as a) it's not a previous address and b) isn't that a fraudulent request?

It bothers me slightly, as to potential lenders it might look like I've been living at an address but not on the electoral register, plus it adds to the number of addresses I've been linked to! I'm wondering if this (coupled with the financial association) had been hindering my chances of credit?

Sorry to go on - is there anyone who can shed further light on this? I assume I could write a NOC, or could I??
